Carmignac Foundation’s photojournalism prize

Carmignac Gestion Foundation, set up in 2000, is a patron of big institutions, such as the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris, and develops, thanks to this activity, a collection which already comprises more than 150 works from the 20th and 21th centuries.
In this tradition, it created the Carmignac Prize, a €50,000 grant for photojournalism. The chosen photographer will see his next report, about a theme linked to current affairs, financed. Moreover, an exhibition and a solo exhibition will be dedicated to the winner. The Foundation, constantly increasing its collection, also buys four photographs from the report.
Each year, a theme, relatively absent from the media, is chosen. For the 2012 edition, Chechnya is honoured. The jury is composed of journalists, Russia experts, and photographers; it will be chaired by Galia Ackerman. The winner will be designated on 30 October, the criterion is the following: the winner must be the most successful in depicting the country’s reality and at the same time express his or her visual language.
Applications are opened until 30 September 2012.
