The British Association of Picture Libraries and Agencies has unveiled a new legal service that will give members free access to specialist intellectual property legal advice

BAPLA is creating the service via Finers Stephens Innocent LLP, an 80‐lawyer practice based in Central London "with many years of experience in advising picture libraries and photographers."
Through the new IP service, BAPLA members will be able receive telephone advice from lawyers on any relevant copyright and other intellectual property issues.
BAPLA is also working on a new raft of offers for its members, including the development of a brand new business MOT training course focusing particularly at improving skills in keywording, marketing and agent networking. The organisation has also announced that it's developing, with the help of media law specialist Swan Turton, a new version of its Terms & Conditions template for members.
The move comes as several British organisations have added their support to a new Bill of Rights campaign launched to protect the rights of photographers and creative artists across the world.
BAPLA has also collaborated with other organisations to see the controversial Clause 43 removed from the Digital Economy Bill last year. While the move was successful, divisions within the different organisations involved led to a small number of members leaving BAPLA.
